The short version: Nosce is built to keep your data on your device. There are no analytics SDKs, no advertising, no third-party trackers, and nothing is ever sold or shared with data brokers. Two features touch the network, and only those two — they're described below.
1. What stays on your device
Nearly everything Nosce knows about you lives only on your iPhone, in the app's local database. This includes your Notices and Pacts, your habits, tasks and focus slots, your streaks and completion history, your earned-reprieve balance, and your settings.
Your app selections (the apps a Notice or Pact watches) are stored as Apple's opaque Screen Time tokens. Because of how iOS works, Nosce cannot see the names of the apps you choose, your usage numbers, or your activity — only iOS evaluates those, on your device, and tells the app when a threshold is crossed.
2. Screen Time & notifications permissions
Nosce asks for two iOS permissions:
- Screen Time (Family Controls). Used entirely on-device to measure usage against the thresholds and limits you set, and to show shields for Pacts. None of this data leaves your phone.
- Notifications. Used to deliver the local "notice" taps and reminders. These are generated on your device.
You can revoke either permission at any time in the iOS Settings app.
3. Weekly Reflection (optional, leaves the device)
If you use the weekly Reflection feature, Nosce sends a coarse, on-device summary of your week to its reflection service to generate the short write-up you read. That summary contains only aggregate counts and timings — for example, how many notices fired and at what hours, and which habits held. It never contains the names of the apps you watch, the contents of any message, or anything iOS does not permit the app to see. If you don't use Reflection, nothing is sent.
4. Shared Pacts (optional, uses iCloud)
A Shared Pact is an optional feature where you and one other person commit to a limit together. To keep both sides in sync, the pact's data is stored in Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) under your Apple Account and shared with the person you invite. What your partner can see is controlled by the visibility setting you choose for the pact — status only, the pact details, or the details plus minutes. If you never create a Shared Pact, this feature is not used and nothing is synced.
iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Deleting a Shared Pact removes its record from the shared iCloud zone.
5. Subscriptions
If Nosce offers a paid subscription, purchases are processed by Apple via the App Store (StoreKit). Nosce receives your subscription status from Apple to unlock features; it never sees or stores your payment details. Manage or cancel a subscription in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
6. What Nosce does not do
- No third-party analytics or crash-tracking SDKs.
- No advertising and no ad identifiers.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of personal data with data brokers.
- No account or sign-up is required to use the core app.
7. Deleting your data
Because on-device data is stored only in the app, deleting Nosce from your iPhone removes it. To remove Shared Pact data from iCloud, delete the pact inside the app, or contact us and we'll help.
8. Children
Nosce is intended for the person installing it on their own device. It is not a parental-control product and is not directed at children under 13.
9. Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects how your data is handled, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
