Terms of Use

Last updated: June 21, 2026

The short version: Nosce is a tool to help you notice and shape your own attention. It is not a medical device, not a guarantee, and not a parental-control product. Use it on your own device, for yourself. By downloading or using Nosce, you agree to these terms.

1. Who Nosce is for

Nosce is intended for the person installing it on their own iPhone, and for users aged 13 and over. It is not designed to monitor or control another person, and it is not a parental-control product.

2. Your licence to use Nosce

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Nosce on Apple devices you own or control, for your own personal use, in accordance with these terms. Your use of the app is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA); where these terms and Apple's standard EULA conflict, Apple's EULA applies to the licence of the application itself.

3. Nosce is not professional advice

Nosce is a self-awareness and habit tool. It does not provide medical, psychological, or clinical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. Nothing in the app is a promise that your screen-time habits will change. If you are struggling with compulsive use or your wellbeing, please seek appropriate professional support.

4. How interventions work (and their limits)

Nosce relies on Apple's Screen Time (DeviceActivity and Managed Settings) frameworks. The timing of notices and any shields is determined by iOS, on your device, and is approximate — thresholds may trip earlier or later than expected, and Apple's frameworks may delay, batch, or occasionally miss events. Nosce cannot guarantee that any notice or shield will fire at a precise moment, and you remain responsible for your own choices and device use.

5. Acceptable use

Please use Nosce lawfully and as intended. You agree not to reverse engineer, tamper with, or attempt to circumvent the app's security or licensing, not to use it to monitor or restrict another person without their knowledge and consent, and not to misuse the Shared Pacts feature to harass or deceive anyone.

6. Subscriptions & billing

Nosce may offer an optional paid subscription (e.g. "Nosce Pro"). Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store, subject to Apple's terms.

7. Shared Pacts

If you create or join a Shared Pact, you are responsible for choosing who you invite and for what you agree to share with them (controlled by the pact's visibility setting). Shared Pact data syncs through Apple's iCloud, as described in our Privacy Policy. Treat the other person with respect; Shared Pacts are meant for mutual accountability, not surveillance.

8. Intellectual property

Nosce, its name, design, artwork, and content are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. These terms do not transfer any ownership to you. The content you create in the app (your habits, tasks, notices, and notes) belongs to you.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

Nosce is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will produce any particular result.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of (or inability to use) Nosce. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including your statutory consumer rights.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Nosce after an update means you accept the revised terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer of Nosce is established, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and subject to any mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence.
