Frequently asked
Does Nosce block my apps?
By default, no. Nosce's headline feature is a Notice — a gentle notification that taps you on the shoulder when you've been in an app too long. The phone stays unlocked and you can keep going.
If you want a real wall, you can opt in to a Pact, which uses iOS's shield to lock an app after a daily or per-sitting cap. Pacts are hidden by default and entirely your choice.
What's the difference between a Notice and a Pact?
A Notice interrupts — it sends you a message you wrote and lets you decide. A Pact enforces — it shields the app when you cross a limit. Notices are the default; Pacts are an optional, stronger guardrail for the apps where noticing isn't enough.
Why doesn't Nosce show the names of my apps or my exact usage?
Apple's Screen Time framework hands apps opaque tokens, not names or numbers. iOS measures your usage on-device and only tells Nosce when a threshold is crossed. This is a privacy protection built into iOS — and it's why your usage never leaves your phone.
My notices aren't firing. What should I check?
A few things to verify:
1. Screen Time permission — iOS Settings → Screen Time → make sure Nosce is allowed. Nosce also shows this status on its own Settings screen.
2. Notifications — iOS Settings → Notifications → Nosce → Allow Notifications.
3. The active window — a Notice only fires inside the time window and on the days you set.
4. Pause — if you've paused Nosce, notices won't fire until the pause ends. Look for the banner on the Today screen.
Screen Time data updates on iOS's own schedule, so a brand-new notice can take a little while to trip the first time. Still stuck? Email us.
How do Shared Pacts work?
A Shared Pact lets you and one other person commit to a daily limit on an app together. You create the pact, send an invite link, and your partner joins. Progress syncs through Apple's iCloud so you can keep each other accountable. You control how much your partner sees with the pact's visibility setting.
Both people need an iPhone signed in to iCloud.
How do I manage or cancel a subscription?
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. Open iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, select Nosce, and change or cancel there. Nosce never sees your payment details.
Which devices does Nosce support?
Nosce is iPhone-only and requires iOS 17 or later. It is not a parental-control app — it's for the person installing it on their own device.
How do I delete my data?
Nosce stores your data on your device, so deleting the app from your iPhone removes it. To remove Shared Pact data from iCloud, delete the pact inside the app, or email us and we'll help. See the privacy policy for details.
